New Zealand 10th Great Walk is opening on West Coast

On the 1st of December 2019 the 10th Great Walk of New Zealand will start operating – Paparoa track on West Coast of Aotearoa. The Paparoa Great Walk starts at the Smoke-ho car park in Blackball and finishes at the Pororari River car park in Punakaiki. It will be available for hikers and bikers. The 55 km track from Blackball to Punakaiki takes 3 days (2 nights) to walk OR 2 days (1 night) to mountain bike.


This Great Walk crosses the Paparoa Range. It takes you through alpine tops, limestone karst landscapes and thriving rainforests, and provides breath-taking views. New-constructed huts are available on the track and must be booked in advance. Car parks are available on both ends of the route and you may use service of car relocation. The shuttle operates between Punakaiki, Greymouth, and Smoke-ho daily. The Paparoa Track is open all year for hikers and bikers.
