Mountain Bike and Kayak: Maori Rock Carvings Package, Taupo

SKU: TKMBKGT-2020

This full day tour combines an easy mountain bike ride and kayaking excursion to let you experience the best views this stunning scenery has to offer. You'll follow the Great Lake Trail by bike for the first half of the day, riding through native bush and magnificent clearings through which you can look out over Lake Taupo. Then it's time for a delicious gourmet lunch to fuel you up for the next part of your adventure out on the water. Jump into your kayak and paddle around the lush tree-lined edge of the lake, through secluded mini inlets that only a kayak can reach, and past impressive steep cliffs as your guide explains the history and features of the area. You'll soon happen upon Mine Bay, where you can gaze up at the ancient Maori art carved into the rock face - reaching 14 meters in height. Learn about their powerful cultural significance from your knowledgeable guide and snap as many photos as your camera can hold!
