Franz Josef Glacier Valley Walk: Includes Glacier Hot Pools
The Glacier Valley is a place of isolation and wonderment. The bottom of the awe-inspiring Frank Josef glacier is less than 300m above sea level and as one of only 3 in the world this close to the sea is remarkable on a world scale. The Glacier Valley Walk will take you up alongside the mighty Waiho River bed and from your experienced guide you will learn of the glacier’s history and the legend of Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere (‘the tears of Hinehukatere’), a tragic love story. After a brief climb you’ll be rewarded with a close view of the glacier’s terminal face. The glacier is unstable & constantly moving, so you cannot get onto the ice on this tour, but this leisurely & informative journey can be tailored to suit groups of most abilities & interests, so no trip is ever the same.
