Boat Based Seal Swim Kaikoura
Fancy yourself a bit of a marine adventurer? Then dive in and experience one of Lonely Planet's "Top Ten Marine Encounters" in the world - snorkelling with wild New Zealand Fur Seals in the shallows of the beautiful Kaikoura Peninsula. This guided tour starts with a short bus trip, departing form the main street of Kaikoura, followed by a 5 to 15 minute boat ride to one of the many seal swimming sites. But this isn't just any boat ride, for along the way you'll learn about the in's and out's of snorkelling, seal etiquette and of course, safety. Once at the site, your group will float on the surface with a large float board and an experienced guide, while watching these graceful and curious mammals enjoy their natural habitat - sometimes as little as 3 meters away from you!
Prices are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). The tour is available each day from 16 November to 30 April.
In the event that there are no seal sightings on your adventure, never fear. You will receive a partial refund, or get the chance to jump on a second tour for free if there is extra space. You will be supplied with a hood, fins, mask and snorkel, and have access to hot showers, changing facilities and safe storage. Please, bring your togs, towel, and shower amenities.
Remember that if children are booked on the tour, they need to be accompanied by an adult for the entire duration to ensure their safety.
