New Zealand is in alert level 1 which means that the majority of tourism providers are open now except seasonable businesses which will stay closed until a summer season. Each activity on our web-site now has a tag "Open!" or "Temporarily closed" or "Starting on Date", so you can assess the availability of a product. Welcome to a new normal!

This afternoon the Prime Minister announced the high-level settings for Alert Level 2, which includes new guidance for travel.
People can travel under Alert Level 2, including between regions for recreation and tourism, but need to do so safely and keep a record of their travel. It is critical that people should avoid travel and stay home if they are unwell. The decision about the date of transition from level 3 to level 2 will be announced on May 11.
1 May 2020
At 11:59 pm on March 25, 2020, the entire territory of New Zealand entered into COVID-19 alert level 4. This caused the temporary closure of all tourism businesses around the country. Despite the fact that on 28 April alert level 3 was announced, all remain closed until further notice. We believe the majority of these businesses will be able to re-start their operations at alert level 2. Everything will depend on the government's recommendations.
Only two providers so far have announced the exact date of the re-opening of their operations:
1. Hobbiton Movie Set - on May 30, 2020 with the comments: Our only tour experience currently available from June 1 2020 is the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour from The Shire's Rest, 501 Buckland Road, Matamata, departing three times daily at 9.30 am, 12.00 pm and 2.30 pm. All other tours are suspended until further notice. Evening Banquet Tours have been suspended until December 2020 after which time they will be reduced to 1 departure per week, on Saturdays.
2. Abel Tasman Kayaking - on September 1, 2020. This is due to the seasonal nature of the business.
